About this tool
Estimate the end-of-service gratuity you're owed in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah or anywhere in the UAE's private sector. Enter your last basic salary, joining date and last working day to see the gratuity in AED, the days it's based on and whether the two-year cap applies — calculated under Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021, the labour law in force since 2 February 2022.
How to use it
- Enter your last monthly basic salary in AED — without housing, transport or other allowances.
- Enter your joining date and your last working day, plus any unpaid leave days.
- Read the estimated gratuity and the breakdown of how it was calculated.
Good to know
- You must complete at least one year of continuous service to be entitled to gratuity.
- For each of the first five years you earn 21 days' basic wage; for each year after that, 30 days' basic wage. Part years count in proportion.
- The daily wage is your monthly basic salary divided by 30.
- The total can't be more than two years' basic salary.
- Unpaid leave and unpaid absence days don't count as service.
- Since 2 February 2022, resigning no longer reduces gratuity — the old one-third and two-thirds deductions no longer apply.
- Employers must pay end-of-service dues within 14 days of the last working day.
- DIFC (DEWS), ADGM, government employees and employers in the voluntary savings scheme follow different rules.
Frequently asked questions
How is gratuity calculated in the UAE?
Daily wage = basic salary ÷ 30. Multiply it by 21 days for each of your first five years and 30 days for each year after, counting part years in proportion. The total is capped at two years' basic salary.
Is gratuity based on basic or total salary?
On your last basic salary only. Housing, transport and other allowances are not included.
Do I lose gratuity if I resign?
No. Under the labour law in force since 2 February 2022, employees who resign receive the same gratuity as those whose contract ends, provided they have at least one year of service.
Do I get gratuity if I worked less than one year?
No. Gratuity starts only after one full year of continuous service.
Does this apply to DIFC or ADGM employees?
No. DIFC uses the DEWS savings scheme and ADGM has its own employment regulations, so this calculator doesn't apply to them.
