Good to know
- 1 tola = 11.6638 grams (180 grains). This is the standard tola used in Pakistan and India.
- 1 tola = 12 masha, and 1 masha = 8 ratti, so 1 tola = 96 ratti.
- International gold prices are quoted per troy ounce: 1 troy ounce = 31.1035 g ≈ 2.667 tola.
- The tool never shows a gold price of its own — rates change every day, so you enter the rate you were given.
- The value shown is metal value only. Jewellers add making charges and price by purity (24K, 22K, 21K).
Converting a gold rate
Gold in Pakistan is usually quoted per tola, in India per 10 grams and in the international market per troy ounce. To compare them, bring them all to a price per gram. For example, a rate of 300,000 per tola (an example, not today's price) is 300,000 ÷ 11.6638 = about 25,721 per gram, or about 257,206 per 10 grams.
Always check which purity a rate is for. 24K gold is 99.9% pure, 22K is about 91.7%, 21K is 87.5% and 18K is 75%, and each has its own rate.
Masha and ratti
Older jewellery bills and family records often give weights in tola, masha and ratti, for example “2 tola 4 masha”. Since 1 tola = 12 masha, that is 2.333 tola, or about 27.2 grams. Enter 28 masha in the converter to check: it gives the same answer.
