Convert plot and property sizes used in Pakistan — marla and kanal — to square feet, square yards (gaz), square metres and acres, and back again. Because a marla isn't the same size everywhere, you choose the marla your housing society or land record uses: 225, 250 or 272.25 square feet, or enter your own.
How to use it

- 1 square yard (gaz) = 9 sq ft, 1 square metre = 10.764 sq ft and 1 acre = 43,560 sq ft — these never change.

Comparing plots in different societies
Two “10 marla” plots can be different sizes. At 225 sq ft per marla a 10 marla plot is 2,250 sq ft; at 272.25 sq ft per marla it is 2,722.5 sq ft — 21% bigger. Before comparing prices, convert both plots to square feet and divide the price by the area to get a price per square foot.
In Karachi plots are usually described in square yards rather than marla — for example 120 or 240 square yards. Multiply square yards by 9 to get square feet: 120 square yards = 1,080 sq ft.

How many kanal are in 1 acre?
With the traditional 272.25 sq ft marla, 1 acre is exactly 8 kanal (160 marla). With a 225 sq ft marla, 1 acre is about 9.68 kanal.
Why do 5 marla plots differ in size between societies?
Because each society or authority can define the marla differently. A 5 marla plot is 1,125 sq ft at 225 sq ft per marla but 1,361.25 sq ft at 272.25 sq ft per marla — always compare plots in square feet.
